Most Venturing Crews will have a focus. The focus of our crew is "outdoor/high adventure". This means that we will concentrate on learning outdoor skills such as outdoor safety, basic and wilderness first aid, camping skills, outdoor cooking, fire building, and wilderness skills.
Crew members will learn the basics of picking the right campsite, setting up various styles of tents. They will learn how to cook over a fire, traditional camp stoves, lightweight backpacking stoves, and dutch ovens. They will learn what gear to bring for various activities at different climates. They will learn about lightweight backpacking and hiking.
Our goal is to provide several opportunities per year to do some weekend camping where we can work on some of these skills.
Our other goal is to provide at least one high adventure trip per year to put these skills together in a fabulous setting.
High adventure trips may include kayaking in the Apostle Islands, backpacking on the Superior Hiking Trail, backpacking on Isle Royale, backpacking at Philmont Scout Ranch(2019), canoeing various rivers, etc...
The only thing we need is willing Venturing Crew Members and willing adults to make it happen.
